South African Citizenship – A New Era for Dual Citizens

REGISTRATION

On 6 May 20025, the South African Constitutional Court ruled Section 6(2) of the South African Citizenship Act (Act No. 88 of 1995) unconstitutional.

What Does This Mean?
Previously, South Africans who acquired another nationality without first applying for a Certificate of Retention automatically lost their South African citizenship. This is no longer the case.

Join our team at Fragomen for a timely session that will help you understand the impact of these changes.

We will cover:

  • What this means for you if you hold dual citizenship
  • African law requirements to enter and exit South Africa
  • Measures being undertaken by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to improve access to passports and related services
  • Passport and citizenship support options available to you
